Further Information - IndoAustay Adult Immersion

Solo January 2024

 

The January 2024 IndoAustay Adult Immersion Program will occur in Solo (Surakarta), Central Java, over two weeks in January from the 6/01/24 to the 21/01/24. The Program will provide participants with an in-country experience consisting of 10 days of language and cultural immersion conducted by staff at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta.

​The Immersion Program will be structured to strengthen language, intercultural understanding and develop authentic relationships. Cultural experiences include a component of the program conducted at Bayat in the nearby Klaten Regency.

Dates

  • The program will be conducted from Saturday January 6 2024 until Saturday January 21 2024 (departure and arrival dates may vary slightly according to airline schedules)

Venue

  • Initial days of the Program will occur on campus at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Accomodation will be provided on campus by the University.

  • The Program includes an exciting component to be held at Bayat in the Klaten Regency close by Surakarta. During this phase of the program participants will be housed in 'penginapan' (homestay style) accomodation.

 

Participants

  • Participants will be adults above the age of 18 years. Application is open to all. Members of Australia Indonesia Association Victoria and NSW, and the Australia Indonesia Youth Association will be prioritised.

  • It is envisaged that the maximum number of participants will be ten.

  • Participants will be expected to participate fully in the scheduled program and associated events and excursions and to travel to and from the Program on the set dates using IndoAustay travel partners (exceptions by negotiation)

 

The Immersion Program

  • 2 weeks of language and cultural activities over 10 days will be provided by staff from the Universitas Muhammadiyah Solo.

  • The first few days of the Program will be conducted on the UMS Campus in Solo. 

  • The Program will move to Bayat in the Klaten Regency providing the opportunity to experience many aspects of traditional Indonesian cultural activities.

  • Highlights will include amongst others:

    • local culinary practices.

    • cultural significance and production of blangkon (traditional Javanese headwear)

    • visit to Candi Prambanan

    • traditional batik and batik kayu (wood)

    • many more aspects of cultural interest and significance

  • The Program returns to Solo for conclusion and departure​

Cost

The participants fee is $4550 (inclusive of flights).

Participant fee will include:

  • flights

  • 2 week Immersion Program

  • accommodation 

  • transfers to and from Surakarta

  • basic level travel insurance

  • Participants to cover all other costs including, food/drinks, local transport, gifts, and stationary
